As you may have noticed from our social media and recent news stories, we have rebranded from Spex Pistols to Land O’Spex.
Last year, we were threatened with legal action if we did not change our brand name and logo by a team working on behalf of The Sex Pistols. We tried our best to fight this but the only option was to rebrand or work under tight branding restrictions. These restrictions included limitations on logo colour and typeface as well as the conditions that our logo must always be accompanied by the description ‘Optical Boutique’ and that our brand could only be used within our shop on Johnston’s Lane. The terms imposed by The Sex Pistols were unworkable for us and we became fearful that we would no longer have any control over brand decisions. Like most independent businesses, it’s important to us that we be able to use and manage our brand on our own terms. We therefore felt that the right choice was to relaunch as Land O’Spex.
When you visit us you’ll see a change to our shop front, the name on your shopping bag and online you’ll spot a new logo. But, there are a few things that won’t be changing - the spex quality, the frame selection, the team who love to help you and the shopping experience you’ve come to know. As far as that’s concerned, it’s business as usual.
As sad as we are to say goodbye to the name that brought many of you to us, we’re excited to welcome you all to the Land O'Spex.
